SURVEYS
PRE-PURCHASE SURVEY

A pre-purchase survey is a full condition survey of the vessel. Normally all equipment and systems shall be tested, and a report will be produced for Prospective buyers that require a pre-purchase survey. This survey will normally include the underwater hull survey and the sea trials.
SEA TRIAL SURVEY

Usually included as part of the pre-purchase survey but can also be carried out individually. A sea trial is primarily to check the vessel’s performance at cruising speed and top speed.
UNDERWATER HULL SURVEY

This would normally require a haul out or dry-docking facility to allow for a close up examination of the hull. Particular attention is paid to the shell plating, stern frame, rudders, propellers and through-hull fittings. All parts of the hull particularly liable to corrosion and chafing are inspected and ultrasonic thickness measurements are recorded.
DAMAGE SURVEY

A damage survey is usually undertaken on receiving instructions from insurance underwriters but may be from vessel owners, charterers, P&I clubs, shippers, consignees, carriers or lawyers. The damage survey report will provide only an unbiased appraisal of the nature, extent and cause of any loss or damage.
CONDITION SURVEY

A condition survey will include everything that would be covered in a pre-purchase survey as well as the underwater hull survey and the sea trial if possible.
SMALL PLEASURE VESSELS

There is no vessel too small for us to survey. Most small pleasure vessels will require a survey for insurance purposes.
SMALL COMMERCIAL VESSELS (Under 24m)

Tom Jackman is an authorised examiner for coding small vessels with the Society of Consulting Marine Engineers and Ship Surveyors. Please make contact to see if we can assist.

FISHING VESSELS

Depending on what you require we may be able to help by undertaking a comparison report of your vessel to allow registration with the MCA (vessels not on the register). Or if you have a registered fishing vessel and need any other survey undertaken such as Condition (for insurance), Valuation or Damage surveys please make contact. The following link is very useful.
